Botox Q & A

What is Botox®?

Botox is an injectable cosmetic. It uses botulinum toxin type A to prevent nerve signals from reaching certain muscles in your face. That allows your muscles to relax, minimizing the appearance of crow’s feet, wrinkles, and fine lines.

Botox injections are safe, well-tolerated, and present few risks. They work almost instantly, so you’re able to see the results as soon as your appointment is finished.

How do I prepare for Botox injections?

Before recommending Botox, Dr. Taube conducts a physical exam and reviews your health history. During your consultation, let Dr. Taube know if you have any allergies or underlying medical conditions. To reduce the risk of bruising, Dr. Taube might ask you to refrain from any blood-thinning medication, like aspirin, for at least a few days before your procedure.

What areas of the body can be treated with Botox?

At The Elite Wellness Resort, Dr. Taube uses Botox injections to minimize the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead, underneath the eyes, and between the eyes (glabellar region). The number of injections you receive depends on your age, medical history, goals, and budget.

What do Botox injections involve?

At The Elite Wellness Resort, Dr. Taube performs Botox injections on an outpatient basis. In fact, most visits take less than 20 minutes.

Before administering your injections, Dr. Taube explains the treatment process and what to expect. Then, she administers a topical anesthetic to numb your forehead, under eyes, and cheeks. After the anesthesia sets in, Dr. Taube administers a number of injections.

As soon as the Botox enters your body, it goes to work blocking nerve signals from reaching the muscles in your face.

What is recovery like following Botox?

After Botox treatment, avoid rubbing, massaging, or applying pressure to the treated area. Otherwise, the Botox can enter other areas of your body and negatively affect your results. If you receive injections between the eyes, avoid lying down for at least three to four hours.

You can return to work or school right away, but try to avoid strenuous exercise or other physically demanding activities for at least 24 hours.
